Save a Son
It’s that time again, which seems to be often when it comes
to me and blogging.
What time you ask? That time when I ask everyone to take
one step back from the box they call their lives and think of someone less
fortunate than themselves; in this case, I want you to think of a certain 3
year old boy called Reef.
In short, Reef developed graft-versus-host-desease (GVHD)
after a bone marrow transplant, where the bone marrow attacks the recipient’s
body. He is the youngest person in Gauteng that has survived a bone marrow
transplant, but because of the GVHD he
only weighs 9.2kg, has lost partial mobility in his hands and he stands the
chance to go blind and lose the use of his legs.
Stop. Breathe. Think.
This is a 3 year old child; a child that has not yet begun
to feel what living really means or to have experienced walking, talking or
even being fed without the help of a feeding tube.
Some of you may be reading this and thinking, “It’s sad, but it has nothing to do with me.” and that’s alright – you each have a right to your own emotions and opinions,
but some of you are reading this and your hearts may be calling you to do
something.
Is there something anyone or even you can do to save such a
strong-willed young man?
Yes. There is something you can do to help baby Reef
take a step towards the chance of a new life.
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) can help prevent Reef
from losing his eyesight and the use of his legs with medication and an
intensive, minimum 18-month rehabilitation programme. The one problem with
this, is that it costs a grand total of R7 million for this treatment BUT CHLA have offered the family a 50%
discount, meaning they need R3.5 million to continue with this opportunity.
If you feel that you want to help save a 3 year old childs life,

Though Charmeon says that she they will be saving money because the option to have the insert the port has been stopped, doesn't mean that they don't need money anymore. With a situation like this, Baby Reef will always need medication, treatment or even just a little spoiling. In a world like this, we need to be the modern day Robin Hoods, because if we don't - no one will.
