Devon Valley Run 2012

If you follow my blog, you will notice that this is the second time I've done this walk/run (you can view the 2011 blog by clicking HERE).

This year was a little different:
  • Last year I went with one friend and a bunch of people I'd never met. This year I went with people I knew.
  • Last year the walk/run was 15km.
This year the walk/run was 12km.
  • Last year I ran some of it.
This year I ran the last 100m only.
  • Last year I drank like a trooper.
This year I did it sober.
The experience was still one that I would love to do again and again and again. If not for the once a year physical exercise then definitely for the strangers who take the time to dress up, who share their awesome mood and to indulge in their drunkenness (so much more fun when you're sober and watching).

Where can one even begin to write a blog about this event? Well, let's start with the costumes. On lying around and drinking wine, my mother and I were struggling to come up with ideas when *POOF* an idea hit her - we would dress up as breathalysers (easy to do considering my dad works at RedLine):

My contribution to the costumes

As anyone does when they attend these events and they dress up, you start to panic when you pull up in the car park and no one has dressed up yet, so I took the cold walk of shame and got our tags and drinking cups. It wasn't long before people started to arrive dressed up and ready for action. There were people dressed as ballerinas, vampires, zombie babies, a taxi, nurses and patients and so much more!

After much waiting and many nervous pee-breaks, we were standing merged with the crowd anxious to get the race started and *BOOM* went the siren and off we went.

The wine estates that we stopped at this year were:

  1. Started at Oude Libertas Ampitheatre
  2. Middlevlei
  3. Clos Malverne
  4. Louiseval
  5. JC Le Roux
  6. Finished at Oude Libertas Ampitheatre
Here are some pics of our journey:

  1. I'm doing another 12km walk on the 24 November if you'd like to join :) I don't think the next one is a dress up though!
